Tomato Rice
This is very easy to prepare. Prepare rice first and then add the prepared masala into it and the end product will be very tasty. This can be taken for lunch and can be prepared very easily when we have little time only for preparing lunch. This can also be done when you have leftover rice
To grind:
Tomato -2
Grind and make into a fine puree
Preparation Time :20 minutes
Cooking Time :10 minutes
Ingredients:
- Cooked rice -1cup
- Big Onion -1
- Tomato -2
- Green chilli -2
- Mustard seeds/kadugu -1/2tsp
- Urad dal/Ulutham parupu -1/4tsp
- Turmeric powder/Manjal podi -1/2tsp
- Salt -1tsp
- Curry leaf -A spring
- Oil -1tblsp
To grind:
Tomato -2
Grind and make into a fine puree

- Prepare rice and keep
- Chop onion and green chilli to fine pieces
- Grid tomato to a fine puree
Procedure:
- Pour oil in a pan
- Add mustard seeds and after it crackles add urad dal and fry
- Add onion and green chilli and fry till onion becomes golden brown in color
- Add tomato puree and fry till the raw smell goes off
- Add curry leaves and fry
- Add turmeric powder, salt and mix
- Take this and pour on rice and mix
- Tomato rice is now ready!!!

Onion Chutney/Venkaya chutney
Onion chutney or venkaya chutney is a good combination for dosa, idli and appams. It is very easy to prepare but tastes so good.I have used big onions and we can use shallots/small onions too.
Preparation Time :10 minutes
Cooking Time:15 minutes
Ingredients:
- Big Onions -2
- Red chilli -2
- Mustard seeds/kadugu -1/2tsp
- Urad dal/Ulutham parupa -1/2tsp
- Ginger and garlic paste -2tsp
- Salt -1tsp
- Tamarind -a small piece or tamarind paste -1/4tsp
- Oil -1tsp
Preparation:
- Chop onions into small pieces
- Chop ginger and garlic into fine paste else we can use readymade ginger garlic paste too
Procedure:
- Pour oil in a pan
- Add mustard seeds, urad dal, red chilli
- Then add onions and fry till it becomes golden brown
- Then add ginger and garlic paste and mix
- Add salt and mix and switch off the flame
- After it cools down grind it with tamarind
- Tasty onion chutney is ready

Palak fry
Palak is good for health as it helps to cure constipation, great for diabetics and great for heart. It is low in fat and low in cholestrol. Palak fry is so easy to make and is very healthy too. It can be taken as a sidedish for rice
Preparation Time :20 minutes
Cooking Time :15 minutes
Ingredients:
- Big Onion -1
- Red Chilli -2
- Mustard seeds/Kadugu -1tsp
- Urad dal -1/2 tsp
- Palak leaves -2cup
- Coconut -1tblsp
- Fennel seeds/Perunjeerakam/sombu -1/2tsp
- Salt -1tsp
- Oil -1tblsp
For Grinding:
- Coconut -1tblsp
- Fennel seeds/Perunjeerakam/sombu -1/2tsp
Grind this coarsely. Don't add water
Preparation:
- Take the leaves from palak and wash it and keep
- Chop onion into small pieces
- Grind coconut and fennel seeds and keep
Procedure:
- Pour oil in a pan
- After oil gets heated, add mustard seeds and after it splutters add urad dal and red chilli and fry
- Then add onion and fry
- Then add palak and fry till it shrinks
- Add the grinded coconut and fennel seeds next and mix
- Palak fry is now ready!!!
