Easy Pasipayir Sundal without coconut/Easy whole green gram sundal

This is an easy recipe and you can have it as a healthy snack when you feel hungry. It involves very less cooking time and involves no soaking too. Instead of having junk foods like pizza, puffs as a evening snack you can have healthy snack like this. The green gram is one of the healthiest pulses. It is rich in proteins, fiber, minerals, calcium, phosphorus, iron. It can be used in sprouted form also

Preparation Time :5minutes

Cooking Time :20minutes

 

Ingredients:

  • Whole greem gram/ Pasi payir -2cup
  • Big onion -1
  • Red chilli -3
  • Mustard seeds/Kadugu -1tsp
  • Curry leaves -A spring
  • Salt -2tsp or as required
  • Oil -2tsp or as required
  • Water -3cups or as required

Preparation:

  • Chop onion into small pieces

Procedure:

  • Take whole green gram in a cooker and add water to it and pressure cook it for 2whistles in high flame and in low flame for 10 minutes
  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add mustard seeds and after it crackles add red chilli, curry leaves and onion and fry till it becomes golden brown in color
  • Then add the boiled green gram and mix well
  • Green gram Sundal is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:

Take whole green gram in a cooker and add water to it and pressure cook it for 2whistles in high flame and in low flame for 10 minutes
Pour oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and after it crackles add red chilli, curry leaves and onion and fry till it becomes golden brown in color
Then add the boiled green gram and mix well

Whole Green gram Sundal/Pasi Paruppu Sundal

This pasi parupu sundal is a easy recipe as it does not involve overnight soaking and gets ready very easily. It is a traditional South Indian Dish that can be had as a snack or as a side dish for rice. It is a perfect filling and a healthy snack too. The green gram is one of the healthiest pulses. Cooked dal of green gram is a very digestive food for sick persons. Its regular use during childhood, pregnancy and lactation helps one to get the required nutrition and also to promote health. It is rich in proteins, fiber, minerals, calcium, phosphorus, iron. It can be used in sprouted form also

Preparation  Time :10minutes

Cooking Time :20minutes

 

Ingredients:

  • Whole Green Gram/Pasi Parrupu -2cups
  • Mustard seeds/Kadugu -1tsp
  • Cumin seeds/Seerakam -1/2tsp
  • Urad Dal/Ulutham Parupu -1/2tsp
  • Big Onion -2
  • Curry leaves -A spring 
  • Coconut gratings -1/2cup
  • Green Chilli -2
  • Fennel seeds powder/Sombu powder/Perunjeerakam powder -2tsp
  • Salt -2tsp or as required
  • Oil -1tblsp or as required
  • Water -1 and 1/2cups

For Grinding:
  • Coconut -1/2cup
  • Green Chilli -2
  • Fennel seeds/Sombu /Perunjeerakam -2tsp

Grind everything coarsely without adding water

Preparation:

  • Chop onion into small pieces
  • Grind everything given under "For Grinding" coarsely without adding water
  • Wash some curry leaves and keep

Procedure:

  • Take whole green gram in a pressure cooker and add water and pressure cook it for 2 whistles in high flame and in low flame for ten minutes
  • After the pressure goes by itself open the cooker and if there is excess water keep it aside and keep the whole green gram aside
  • Pour oil in a pan
  • After oil gets heated, add mustard seeds
  • After it splutters, add cumin seeds and urad dal and fry
  • Then add onions and fry till it becomes golden brown in color
  • Then add the green gram and mix well
  • If there is excess water after boiling green gram add it too and boil well
  • Then add salt and mix well
  • Grind coconut, green chili, fennel seeds coarsely without adding water 
  • Add this and mix well
  • Whole green gram Sundal is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:

Take whole green gram in a pressure cooker and add water and pressure cook it for 2 whistles in high flame and in low flame for ten minutes
Pour oil in a pan. After oil gets heated, add mustard seeds. After it splutters, add cumin seeds and urad dal and fry. Then add onions and fry till it becomes golden brown in color
Then add the green gram and mix well
Grind coconut, green chili, fennel seeds coarsely without adding water
Mix well
Whole green gram Sundal is now ready!!!

Brown Chickpeas Sundal/Brown Kondakadalai Sundal

This brown chickpeas sundal is a quick snack or can be taken for breakfast too. It is very healthy. It helps in building bone strength and maintains blood pressure. We have to soak it overnight before boiling it. The taste will be very nice after cooking and it is a very healthy dish too. Bachelors who are busy in their work can have it for their breakfast as it takes less cooking time and it has a lot of energy. It can also be taken as a tea time snack.


Preparation Time :15minutes

Cooking Time :30minutes+10minutes


Ingredients:

  • Brown chickpeas(dried)/Brown kondakadalai -1/4kg
  • Big Onion -2
  • Red chilli -2
  • Curry leaves -A spring
  • Coconut -2pieces
  • Green chilli -1
  • Fennel seeds powder/Sombu powder/Perunjeerakam podi -2tsp
  • Mustard seeds/Kadugu -1tsp
  • Urad dal/Ulutham parupu -1/2tsp
  • Cumin seeds/Seerakam -1/4tsp
  • Salt -2tsp or as required
  • Water- As required to boil chickpeas

For grinding:

  • Coconut -2pieces
  • Green chilli -1
  • Fennel seeds powder/Sombu powder/Perunjeerakam podi -2tsp

Grind everything coarsely. Don't add water while grinding.

Preparation:

  • Soak chickpeas with some water overnight
  • Chop onion into small pieces
  • Grind everything given under "For grinding" coarsely without adding water

Procedure:

  • Soak brown chickpeas with water in a bowl overnight
  • At morning, drain the water and pressure cook it by adding water in high flame for 3whistles and in low flame for 20minutes
  • After the pressure goes by itself open the cooker and drain excess water and take chickpeas and keep
  • Grind coconut, green chilly and fennel seeds powder coarsely without adding water
  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add mustard seeds and after it crackles ade urad dal, red chilli, cumin seeds and fry
  • Then add onion and curry leaves and fry till onion becomes golden brown in color
  • Then add the boiled chickpeas and fry and switch off the flame
  • Add the grind-ed mixture and mix well
  • Brown Chickpeas Sundal is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:

Then add the boiled chickpeas and fry and switch off the flame
Add the grinded mixture and mix well
Brown Chickpeas Sundal is now ready!!!

Channa Masala

This is a flavourful channa masala recipe made with white channa and it tastes amazing. This white channa is also known as Chickpea or Bengal Gram. This is a nice tea time snack. They are flavoured with spices such as cumin, pepper, chillies. You can serve this warm or at room temperature but it tastes best when warm. Channa is sodium and cholesterol free and are a good source of carbohydrate. They are also rich in folates and are food sources of dietary fiber, protein, copper, iron and phosphorus. Dried channa can be stored in an airtight container in a cool and dry place. It lasts up to twelve months. Do not combine different types of channa when cooking as they require different cooking times due to varying stages of dryness.

 

Preparation Time :10 minutes

Cooking Time :30minutes +20minutes

 

Ingredients: 

  • Channa -1/4kg
  • Onion -2
  • Tomato -1
  • Chilli powder/Milagai podi -1tblsp or as needed
  • Cumin powder/Seeraga podi -1tsp
  • Fennel seed powder/Sombu powder/Perunjeeraga podi -2tsp
  • Coriander powder/Kothamalli podi -1tsp
  • Turmeric powder/Manjal podi -1/2tsp
  • Coriander leaves -a handful
  • Salt -1tblsp or as needed
  • Oil -1tblsp or as needed

Preparation:

  • Soak channa with water overnight or for at least 6hours
  • Chop onion and tomato into small pieces
  • Keep some chopped onion aside and chop some coriander leaves for garnishing

Procedure:

  • Soak channa with water overnight or for at least 6hours. Drain the water and pressure cook in a cooker for 3whistles in high flame and in low flame for 15minutes or more till channa gets cooked softly
  • Wait till the pressure goes by itself and open the cooker
  • Drain the water and keep channa aside
  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add onions and fry till it becomes golden brown in color
  • Then add tomato and fry till it becomes soft and the raw smell goes away
  • Then add chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, fennel seeds powder and salt and mix well and fry till the raw smell goes away
  • Then add boiled channa and mix well
  • Switch off the flame and garnish with raw onions and coriander leaves
  • Channa Masala is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:

Soak channa with water overnight or for at least 6hours
Drain the water and pressure cook in a cooker for 3whistles in high flame and in low flame for 15minutes or more till channa gets cooked softly
Pour oil in a pan. Add onions and fry till it becomes golden brown in color
Then add tomato and fry till it becomes soft and the raw smell goes away. Then add chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, fennel seeds powder and salt and mix well and fry till the raw smell goes away
Then add boiled channa and mix well
Switch off the flame and garnish with raw onions and coriander leaves. Channa chat is now ready!!!


Note:

  • Do not add salt while boiling channa as it wont gets boiled properly
  • The prepared channa should be placed in a covered container in the refrigerator and can be heated again to retain their freshness. It can be kept for up to four days 
 

Butter Sweet Corn

Sweet corn is one of the easiest snack which you can make within minutes and enjoy. The natural sweet corn kernels alone gives a good taste. The steamed sweet corn flavoured with butter, salt and pepper gives an excellent taste and flavour. I am a big fan of this sweet corn and fresh corn will be much tastier than the frozen one. Also sweet corn is a starchy vegetable high in carbohydrate content. Sweet corns are also used in chat recipes, soups, salads and in many veg and non-veg dishes. By combining it with other foods, you can boost up the nutrient contents even more too.


Preparation Time :10minutes

Cooking Time :25minutes

 

Ingredients:

  • Sweet corn -1
  • Butter -2tsp or as needed
  • Salt -1tsp or as needed
  • Pepper -2tsp or as needed
  • Water -1cup

Preparation:

Remove the outer skin from sweet corn and remove the kernel alone and keep. You can keep it in fridge and use it later as a frozen one else you can use it fresh

 

Procedure:

  • Pressure cook the sweet corn kernels with one cup water for 3whistles in high flame and in low flame for 20minutes. Do not add salt while pressure cooking as it wont get cooked properly
  • Let the pressure go by itself. Now open the cooker and take the kernels alone
  • Discard the water
  • Now add butter and mix well
  • Add salt and pepper and mix well
  • Buttered sweet corn is now ready!!!
  • Serve warm... Enjoy!!!

Pressure cook the sweet corn kernels with one cup water for 3whistles in high flame and in low flame for 20minutes. Do not add salt while pressure cooking as it wont get cooked properly
Now add butter and mix well. Add salt and pepper and mix well
Buttered sweet corn is now ready!!!
