Onion Chutney/Venkaya chutney

Onion chutney or venkaya chutney is a good combination for dosa, idli and appams. It is very easy to prepare but tastes so good.I have used big onions and we can use shallots/small onions too.


Preparation Time :10 minutes

Cooking Time:15 minutes


Ingredients:

  • Big Onions -2
  • Red chilli -2
  • Mustard seeds/kadugu -1/2tsp
  • Urad dal/Ulutham parupa -1/2tsp
  • Ginger and garlic paste -2tsp
  • Salt -1tsp
  • Tamarind -a small piece or tamarind paste -1/4tsp
  • Oil -1tsp

Preparation:

  • Chop onions into small pieces
  • Chop ginger and garlic into fine paste else we can use readymade ginger garlic paste too

Procedure:

  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add mustard seeds, urad dal, red chilli
  • Then add onions and fry till it becomes golden brown
  • Then add ginger and garlic paste and mix
  • Add salt and mix and switch off the flame
  • After it cools down grind it with tamarind
  • Tasty onion chutney is ready

Step by step procedure:
